Privacy Policy

Humble Media · Effective April 22, 2026

Privacy is a core design principle of Humble Zen — not an afterthought. On-device transcription means your audio never leaves your phone. Here's exactly what we collect, what we don't, and why.

1. What We Collect

Humble Zen collects only what's necessary to provide and improve the service:

  • Account data — When you sign in with email, Google, or Apple, we store your user ID, email address, and display name via Firebase Authentication (Google Cloud). Anonymous accounts are created automatically on first launch and store no personal identifiers.
  • Note content — Your transcripts, summaries, flashcards, quiz results, and other note data are stored in Firestore (Google Cloud) when you are signed in, so they sync across devices. This data is associated with your user ID.
  • Purchase data — In-app purchase status and credit balances are managed by RevenueCat, a third-party payment infrastructure provider. RevenueCat receives your App Store receipt and purchase history to verify and fulfill your purchase. See RevenueCat's privacy policy for details.
  • Usage data — We may collect anonymous, aggregated usage analytics to understand how the app is used and improve the product. This data cannot identify you.

2. What We Never Collect

  • Your audio recordings — Transcription runs entirely on-device using an embedded Whisper model. Your audio files are never uploaded to Humble Media servers or any third-party transcription service.
  • Voice or biometric data — We do not collect, store, or analyze your voice for any purpose beyond on-device transcription.

3. AI Features and Third-Party AI Services

Humble Zen requests your explicit permission before sending any data to a third-party AI service. The first time you use an AI feature, you will be asked to allow or deny this data sharing. You can change your preference at any time in the app's Settings.

If you grant permission, the following third-party AI services may receive your transcript text depending on which features you use:

  • Cloudflare Workers AI — processes transcript text to generate summaries, flashcards, quizzes, chat responses, and cheat sheets. Only transcript text is transmitted — your audio is never sent. Cloudflare does not retain or use your content to train AI models. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
  • Google AI (Gemini / Vertex AI) — powers the Ask Anything semantic search feature by processing transcript text to find relevant answers across your notes. Only transcript text is transmitted — your audio is never sent. Google does not retain or use your content to train AI models. See Google's privacy policy.

Each AI action consumes credits. If you do not grant permission, note creation and on-device transcription will still work normally — only AI-powered features will be unavailable.

4. Data Storage and Sync

Your notes are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. When you are signed in, they are also synced to Firestore (Google Cloud / Firebase) so you can access them across devices and protect against data loss.

Firebase Storage is used to store audio file references associated with your account. All Firebase data is stored in Google Cloud infrastructure and subject to Google's data security standards.

5. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect to:

  • Provide and sync the Humble Zen service across your devices
  • Process in-app purchases and manage AI credit balances
  • Respond to support requests
  • Improve the app through anonymous usage analytics

6. Data Sharing

Humble Media does not sell your personal data. We share data only with the third-party service providers necessary to operate the app:

  • Firebase (Google) — Authentication, database, and storage
  • Cloudflare Workers AI — Summaries, flashcards, quizzes, and chat (transcript text only, with your permission)
  • Google AI (Gemini / Vertex AI) — Ask Anything semantic search (transcript text only, with your permission)
  • RevenueCat — In-app purchase management

We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request.

7. AI Training

Humble Media does not use your notes, transcripts, or any personal data to train AI models. Your content is yours.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete individual notes within the app at any time. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at [email protected] and we will process the deletion promptly.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, and delete your personal data. If you have questions or requests regarding your data, contact us at [email protected].

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you may have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

10. Children's Privacy

Humble Zen is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the effective date above. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of Humble Zen after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
